BlackBerry Mercury, the last in-house QWERTY smartphone spotted online
BlackBerry's leaked device dubbed Mercury could be the last device built in-house
BlackBerry may have pulled out of making its own smartphones but the company might be soon introducing its last QWERTY device. Since the launch of Priv, BlackBerry has been rumoured to be working on another Android-based QWERTY device and we finally have our first look at the device.
BlackBerry has announced two devices running Android with it's own DTEK security suite since pulling out of making its own smartphones. Now, the company is probably trying its last salvo at the cluttered smartphone market with its own device featuring QWERTY keyboard, the only major attraction here. According to CrackBerry, BlackBerry's leaked device dubbed Mercury could be the last device built in-house.
At this moment, there is very little known about the device and the Weibo user has no previous history of leaking BlackBerry devices so these could well be device renders. Like Nokia, BlackBerry lost out against the likes of touch-friendly smartphones from Apple and Samsung.
Under CEO John Chen, BlackBerry has revived itself to a great deal by focusing on security and enterprise services rather than device ecosystem. The company has even successfully introduced DTEK50 and DTEK60, a rebranded Alcatel devices.
While it is unclear whether BlackBerry really plans to introduce its Qwerty keyboard smartphone but if it does, it would definitely be a very cool possession for BlackBerry fanboys.
