HIGHLIGHTS

BlackBerry Mercury is the second Android device from the company to offer a QWERTY keyboard

BlackBerry Mercury, the next Android smartphone from the Canadian smartphone maker will be launched on February 25 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Earlier this month, the smartphone was previewed at CES 2017 but the company didn't share exact specifications of the product.

The upcoming Mercury is the first phone to come out of BlackBerry's licensing agreement with TCL. The smartphone is the second BlackBerry device to run Android and feature QWERTY keyboard. TCL may announce the product as Mercury or go with DTEK 70 as followup to previously launched DTEK 50 and DTEK 60 smartphones.

BlackBerry aims to continue selling smartphones under its brand name with the new collaboration. TCL will design and develop smartphones under the brand name and will position it as pro-consumer and pro-business users. BlackBerry will continue to provide its security know-how in the form of DTEK security suite.

The specifications about the device are not very clear but past rumours have hinted at use of a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The device is expected to come with either Snapdragon 821 or 625 processor. There will be 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, 13MP rear and 8MP front cameras. The smartphone is expected to debut with Android 7.0 Nougat. It is also worth noting that the smartphone may not launch in India since TCL doesn't have rights to market the product here.
