BlackBerry Mercury might use Google Pixel’s rear image sensor: Report

BlackBerry Mercury reportedly comes with same image sensor available on Google's Pixel range

BlackBerry Mercury is reportedly getting camera module from Google's Pixel smartphone. BlackBerry showcased the device at CES 2017 and will officially announce the handset at MWC next month. The smartphone is being manufactured by TCL and could come under the DTEK70 brand name.

Google Pixel and Pixel XL argueably offer the best smartphone camera in the market right now. The rear camera on the Google Pixel range uses Sony IMX378 image sensor and a new report from CrackBerry indicates BlackBerry Mercury may offer same sensor. BlackBerry Mercury's specifications are not yet confirmed, it might come with the a 12MP sensor with support for 4K video recording.

The report also suggests the smartphone will get either 8MP Samsung S5K4H8 or Omnivision OV8856 sensor. The front camera will also include support for full HD video recording. The smartphone is expected to be powered by mid-range Snapdragon 653 processor.

BlackBerry Mercury's highlight has to be the iconic QWERTY keyboard that made BlackBerry smartphones popular among business users. The smartphone is rumoured to feature a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 1620 x 1080 pixels. The device is expected to come with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.

BlackBerry is making a comeback in the smartphone space by licensing its brand name to TCL. The company will manufacture and sell BlackBerry-branded smartphones in certain parts of the world and recent reports indicated that the handset will not be launched in India.
