California-based tech giant Apple seems to have set its eyes on India for manufacturing and production. Eyeing the country as an alternative to avoid reliance on China, Apple seems to be pressing on the need to increase its production in India. In the past couple of months, the company spoke to various key players and even partnered with the Tata Group to fast forward its action plan. Now, media reports suggest that Tata might be getting on board to set up the biggest iPhone assembly plants in India. Let’s find out more about it.
The Tata Group seems to be on board with Apple’s ambitious plans to push manufacturing in India. Now, we are hearing that the company is planning to set up a factory for the same in Hosur in Tamil Nadu. The sources even suggested that the company aims at completing the project within 12-18 months, to get the factory running. This could be the biggest iPhone assembly plant in India.
You might be aware that owing to the present US-China relations, Apple has been skeptical about its dependence on China for its manufacturing and production needs. This was furthered by the delays faced due to Covid. As a result, Apple has been highly interested in India, as I mentioned previously. Not so long ago, the Tata Group acquired an iPhone factory in Karnataka from the Wistron Group. The future factory that Tata plans on building is expected to be bigger than this.

Now, the company is reportedly speeding up its hiring process for the current Hosur facility. At this factory, the company produces iPhone enclosures or metal casings. The Tata Group also plans on launching 100 stores that focus on Apple products, pan-India. This will come after Apple opened two of its official stores in India; one in Delhi and the other one in Mumbai.
