After receiving great response to pre-orders for its Zenfone lineup, Asus has started sales of its Zenfone 2 Laser 5.5 (2GB RAM) from today, instead of its originally scheduled date of September 19. The device, along with Zenfone Selfie and Zenfone 2 Deluxe, was announced on August 6 and went up for pre-orders from August 19.
The company has announced that it has received more than 30,000 pre-orders for the Zenfones on Flipkart, from 660 cities across India. Among all the three phones, the Laser attracted around 10,000 pre-orders, the largest. As said by the company, the smartphone went out of stock just after 3 days of going up for pre-orders. The 3GB variant of the Zenfone 2 Laser is still labeled as “Coming Soon” on Flipkart.
The Zenfone 2 Laser comes with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It is powered by a Snapdragon 410 SoC, with 2GB of RAM and 3000mAh battery. The smartphone has a 13MP rear camera with laser-assisted autofocus and a 5MP front camera. It is priced at Rs. 9,999. It is the only device to offer laser-assisted autofocus technology at this price point. We also tried a comparative laser-assisted autofocus test, by comparing it with OnePlus 2 and LG G4. The device has two more variants, one with same display but with 3GB of RAM and Snapdragon 615 processor, while the other one has a 6-inch display and Snapdragon 615 chipset. All the variants run on ZenUI, based on Android Lollipop v5.0
At the moment, Asus has more than a dozen Zenfones available in the market, with reports of many more to come in future. Last week, the company released Zenfone Max and Zoom at the IFA in Berlin, along with ZenWatch and other devices. Additionally, there are reports about company planning to launch upto seven Zenfones in 2016.
