Asus readying Padfone 3 for 2013 release; other devices also rumoured
Other rumoured devices from Asus' stable include Windows Phone tablet/phone hybrid and 7-inch phablet.
After launching the tablet/phone hybrid in the Padfone 2 to generally positive reception, Asus may already be working on a third iteration of the device. Sources close to DigiTimes revealed that Asus has already started work on the successor to the Padfone 2, and will showcase it in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. DigiTimes also points out that supply chain vendors have revealed that Asus has sold almost a million units of the Padfone 2 globally.
Asus has also shown interest in the Windows Phone 8 OS and the potential it shows for a device similar to the Padfone. While speaking to the Wall Street Journal Asus Vice President, Benson Lee stated that the Padfone’s form factor and usability made sense for Windows 8.
Furthermore, Asus could also be planning a 7-inch phablet named the “Fonepad K004,” that will run Android but will be powered by an Intel processor, specifically the upcoming Intel Atom Z2420, also known as “Lexington.” Other noteworthy specs of the Fonepad, as noticed by Android Authority, include an IPS display with a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 3MP camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean).
