Asus Pegasus 2 Plus unveiled, sports 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 615

HIGHLIGHTS

The Asus Pegasus 2 Plus sports a mixture of flagship and mid-ranged specifications.

Taiwanese smartphone maker Asus has revealed a new mid-range smartphone called the Pegasus 2 Plus X550. While we expect it to be a mid-ranger because of the Snapdragon 615 SoC, it has flagship level specs too, like 3GB of RAM, a 1080p display, 13 and 8MP cameras on the back and front, and a 3030 mAh battery. The phone runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop along with Asus’ ZenUI on top. It is also a dual-SIM smartphone.

The Asus Pegasus 2 Plus X550 will be available in Gold and White colours and seems like a competent device. Of course, the price that Asus decides to sell this smartphone on will be very important to decide its value. In our experience with the Snapdragon 615 till now, we haven’t been very happy with the performance. While the SoC does the job for basic users, it’s not exactly something you’d want from a powerful smartphone. To get a better idea of the Snapdragon 615, take a look at our Xiaomi Mi 4i review. In addition, if the 13MP camera on the Pegasus 2 Plus is the same as the Zenfone 2, then you can expect an average camera, just like the Zenfone 2 had.

The nomenclature for the device also points towards future variants, possibly with less RAM or maybe even a different processor. It is important to note that Asus has till date launched only its Zenfone series of smartphone, keeping the Pegasus line for overseas. Looking at the demand for Asus’ phones in India though, things just might change in 2015.
