An unannounced Asus phone has surfaced on Geekbench by the codename of ASUS X00RD and going by the enlisted specifications, Asus might just be working on an Android Oreo (Go Edition) device.
The listing was spotted first by leakster Roland Quandt who revealed the phone received 640 points in single-core test and 1664 points in multi-core test.
The Geekbench listing also include the specs which reveal that the phone is powered by the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset clocked at 1.4GHz coupled with 1GB of RAM and running on Android 8.1 Oreo. That pretty much ticks all the boxes for running Android Oreo (Go Edition).
There is no word on pricing and availability, yet, but the fact that the phone surfaced on Geekbench and that Asus will be holding a press conference at MWC later this month, makes us hopeful that the device will launch soon.
Android Oreo (Go Edition) was announced by Google last year to ensure a smooth Android experience for entry-level devices. The lightweight operating system relies on a bunch of ‘Go’ apps that take up less space and resources to deliver a palatable Android experience, even on low-powered devices.
Apart from Asus, OEMs like Micromax, HMD Global and even Reliance Jio are rumoured to be working on similar low-end phones powered by Google's lightweight OS.
