HIGHLIGHTS

Asus has launched the PadFone Mini, a combination of a phone and tablet, in India for Rs. 15,999.

Asus has announced the PadFone Mini in India at a price of Rs. 15,999. The device was launched earlier this year in the global market. The Asus PadFone includes a 4-inch phone that powers a 7-inch tablet as well. The PadFone is as powerful as the Asus Zenfone 5.

The 4-inch PadFone Mini is powered by a dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 SoC clocked at 1.6GHz. The 3G phone has a 4-inch screen sporting a resolution of 800 x 480p. It also has 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage with microSD card support up to 64GB. But the unique thing about this device is that the phone can be docked into the 7-inch screen and then the whole device becomes a tablet.

The tablet, which is nothing but a 7-inch screen with extra battery backup, is powered by the phone itself. The 7-inch tablet has a resolution of 1280 x 800p and a 2100mAh battery. The PadFone runs on Android 4.3 and uses Asus’s ZenUI.

Given that the 4-inch phone itself sports specs that are very similar to the Zenfone 4 (apart from the 8MP camera), for Rs. 16,000 you can buy the Zenfone 4 (6K) and a much better full fledged 8-inch Android tablet (10K) for the same amount. Asus should have priced the PadFone Mini around Rs 12,000 to make it an attractive offer.

Commenting on the launch Asus Regional Head – South Asia & Country Manager, Peter Chang said –
"Today’s introduction of PadFone Mini marks further extension of the PadFone series which expands our users’ world where they will enjoy, achieve and save categorically. It is an alluring proof to substantiate our prime focus on the bringing incredible. We are assertive that PadFone Mini will touch customers’ heart and take us a step ahead to deliver what our brand promises."
