Asus has announced a new variant of the Zenfone 2, called the Deluxe Special Edition. The new phone brings an all new Intel Z3590 SoC to the Zenfone 2 Deluxe lineup. The rest of the specifications are pretty much the same. The phone comes in two back cover options, one is Drift Silver and the other is Carbon Night. Both back covers are made from high quality plastic and are user replaceable. From a specifications point of view, the phone is an incremental variant of the Zenfone 2. The phones were officially unvieled today on the company's global website.
The Drift Silver variant offers a multi-faceted finish back which Asus says is made up of over 500 polygons, which are “hand-tessellated”. On the other hand, the Carbon Night variant has a weave-patterned rear cover and comes with red accents along the edges. The phone also has a special red-and -Black ZenUI theme to go with the design.
Going over the specifications, the Asus Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition come with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display. The display has 72% screen to body ratio and a resolution of 1920x1080p. Like previous top tier Asus Zenfone 2's, the new Special Edition has 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 128GB of internal storage. On top of that, the phone supports 128GB of microSD card storage. The phone will be available in SoC options, one is the Intel Z3580 SoC which is in use since the launch of the original Zenfone 2 and then there is the Z3590 variant. This new Intel SoC was recently seen on the Zenfone Zoom.
In the camera department, the phone gets a 13MP rear camera which supports auto-focus and comes with dual-tone LED flash. It uses a Toshiba sensor and has a f/2.0 aperture. On the front there is a 5MP camera which uses fixed focus only. It also has a f/2.0 aperture and 85 degree wide angle lens. The battery is rated at 3000mAh and the phone can charge from 0 to 60% in lens than 39 minutes. Asus’ Deluxe Special Edition comes pre-loaded with Asphalt 8 Airborne with 24,000 in-game credits. The phone runs on the ZenUI which is layered on top of Android lollipop. India prices and availability of the smartphone is not known yet.
