Apple may introduce a new feature called 'SmartCam' scene selection with the launch of its next iPhone. According to iOS developer Guilherme Rambo, the HomePod software suggests that the SmartCam feature can be used by the camera app to capture the best photo while shooting myriad scenarios, like sunrise or fireworks. 9to5Mac reports that the SmartCam code also has reference to other scenes, including Baby, Bright Stage, Document, Fireworks, Foliage, Sport, Sky and others.
The codes seem to suggest that the SmartCam camera software will look for these objects in the scene and then automatically select the best settings to capture that shot. The feature could also use Apple's CoreML machine learning algorithm to create the best setting for these scenes. Last week, the design of Apple's next iPhone with the bezel-less display was found on the HomePod's firmware. The leaked firmware also suggested that the smartphone will support facial recognition feature. The new code, detailed by Rambo additionally references to Apple Pay authentication using facial recognition.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities has already reported that the iPhone 8 will ditch the Touch ID in favour of facial recognition technology. The front camera system on iPhone 8 is said to support 3D depth sensing to enable facial authentication and may combine the technology with an iris scanning system, for enhanced security.
During the recent earnings call, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, "We have no comment on anything not announced", when asked about the next iPhone by an analyst. The company is rumoured to introduce three new iPhones: two iterative updates in the form of the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus, and a redesigned iPhone 8 with an OLED display in September.
