Apple’s new spaceship campus will be called Apple Park
The 2.8 million square feet ring-shaped campus has the world's largest curved glass panels all around it, says Apple.
Apple’s new spaceship campus is almost up and running and it will be called the Apple Park. In an announcement made yesterday, the company said that it would take about six months to move 12000 employees to the new campus, which has been under construction since December 2013. Apple Park will be operational from April this month, which means Apple will take almost all of 2017 to make it fully operational.
The campus was one of the last things that erstwhile Apple CEO, Steve Jobs, had worked on. It has a space named after Jobs, called the Steve Jobs theater. “Steve would have turned 62 this Friday, February 24. To honor his memory and his enduring influence on Apple and the world, the theater at Apple Park will be named the Steve Jobs Theater," the company said.
This will be used for Apple’s Town Hall events and company meetings as well. The space is considerably larger than Apple’s existing spaces used for such events.
Further, Apple said some construction of parklands and buildings is expected to continue through the summer. Apple Park is a 2.8 million square foot ring-shaped building. According to Apple, it has the world’s largest curved glass panels all around it, said Apple.
“Steve’s vision for Apple stretched far beyond his time with us. He intended Apple Park to be the home of innovation for generations to come,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The workspaces and parklands are designed to inspire our team as well as benefit the environment. We’ve achieved one of the most energy-efficient buildings in the world and the campus will run entirely on renewable energy.”
