Over the last few years, the foldable smartphone market has grown steadily, with Samsung, Motorola, and Huawei holding major market shares. Foldable devices, such as the Galaxy Z series, have seen significant improvements, increasing customer trust in the concept.

According to a DSCC report, the foldable phone category will experience its first year-over-year decline, with an overall effect of 5% in 2025. However, if Apple enters the foldable phone market, it is expected to strengthen it, particularly in India, where Apple has a large fan base.

“After enjoying at least 40% growth per year from 2019-2023, DSCC now believes the foldable smartphone display market will rise just 5% in 2024 and fall by 4% in 2025. Demand has stalled at around 22M panels,” the report added.

There is a lot of excitement surrounding the global release of the iPhone foldable, but it’s important to remember that no concrete details about Apple’s development of this device are yet available. However, given its history of creating trends, Apple has the ability to shape the trajectory of foldable technology, and its first foldable is expected to have a major impact.
