We are not too sure if the gangsters like gold phones or not, but the consumers certainly seem to be lapping them up.

While a rival brand may have chided Apple regarding gangsters and their non-preference for golden coloured phones, that comment has now been proved to have been completely out of depth. Apple has reportedly asked partners to ramp up the production of the golden version of the iPhone 5s by 33%, reports the Wall Street Journal. The company reportedly noticed this trend after pre-ordering for the iPhone 5s began on September 17th, in China, and the golden version was sold out first, followed by the silver colour version.

“The gold model seems to be the most popular among consumers who placed pre-orders for the iPhone 5S at stores run by Hong Kong’s telecommunications carriers in the city’s Wanchai district earlier this week.”, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Apple usually doesn’t allow pre-order periods for the iPhones in stores, but the exception for China was made after violence marred the launch day of the iPhone 4S in the country, at one of the major stores. The system in place this time around allowed users in China to prebook the iPhone of their preference online, which would generate a booking ID. According to how far back you are in the online queue, a date would be generated as to when you can go to the store with the booking details and pick up the device.
