Apple surpasses Xiaomi smartphone sales in top 30 Indian cities: IDC

Apple has a market share of 4.6% as compared to Xiaomi’s 3.5% share in Q4 2015. However, Samsung remained at the top, with a market share of 29.4%.

Apple has reportedly overtaken Xiaomi’s market share in the top 30 cities in India, according to report by the International Data Corporation (IDC). The list of the top 30 cities included Tier 1 cities like Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata, as well as Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. As per the report, these 30 cities make up for about 51% of the whole smartphone market in Q4 2015. Apple had a market share of 4.6% in the quarter,and climbed above Xiaomi, which has a share of 3.5%. Apple is also above Xiaomi in Tier 1 cities with a market share of 5.8% as compared to Xiaomi’s 4.5%. 

Samsung remained at the top with a market share of 29.4% in all 30 cities, followed by Micromax with 14.7%. Lenovo and Motorola follow with a market share of 10.1%, while Intex and Lava complete the list of the top five smartphone vendors with a market share of 8.2% and 7.1% respectively. The report also adds that Apple regained the top spot in the $300-plus smartphone market, with a share of 42.1%. It states that this is due to the launch of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, as well as the price cuts to the iPhone 5s, 6, and 6 Plus.
