Foxconn has most likely started the trial production of these phones at its facility in Chennai.

This is the first time that Apple will make the top-end Pro models outside of China.

Apple is gearing up for the launch of its upcoming iPhone 16 series in September. Although we are still waiting for an official announcement regarding the same, things are happening at full speed now as per media reports. We reported yesterday how Apple is switching bases and is gearing up for the production of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max variants in India. Now, as per an ET report, Apple manufacturer Foxconn has started the trial production.

As per the report, Foxconn has most likely started the trial production of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models at its facility in Chennai. Further, the company has also started with the pilot runs for the base model. It will go into mass production soon to meet the global launch timeline.

This news of the pilot project being on was further backed by the fact that Foxconn has imported various iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max components such as bare printed circuit boards, display assemblies, and camera modules in small batches of 500-1000 units.

You might be wondering why all of this is so big and important. Well, this is the first time that Apple will make the top-end Pro models outside of China. Until now, it was exclusively made in China. Owing to the growing tensions between the US and China, Apple wants to reduce its reliance on the country. Further, it is also important for the Indian manufacturing space as the production of the Pro models requires special assembly lines and higher technical expertise.

As per experts, mass production of the iPhone Pro variants should start in India by the end of the year. Analysts further revealed that the parts were imported in June, by now it is likely that Foxconn has imported more things. But when will Apple release these made-in-India products in the market, we still don’t know.
