Apple has asked its battery manufacturers in India to push up battery production.

As per the reports, a Japanese manufacturer has already started to set up a unit in Haryana.
Apple seems to have a growing fondness for India when it comes to production of its products. Earlier it tied up with Tata Group to set up production and upscale iPhone manufacturing in India. Now it seems that the California-based tech giant is moving its focus and dependency away from China and India is its focal point now.
In a recent update, Apple has asked its battery manufacturers in India to push up battery production in the country to reduce its reliance on China. For this, it has taken two steps. Firstly, it has asked its partners to set up production units in India and secondly, it has asked its already established partners to increase their production significantly. With that thought in mind, Apple has asked Desay of China to set up a unit in India and Simplo Technology of Taiwan to increase production in its Chennai factory in India, according to a Financial Times report.

91Mobiles further reported that a Japanese manufacturer has already started to set up a unit in Haryana. This was further confirmed by Deputy Minister for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar who took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal that Japanese battery maker TDK plans on investing in a 180-acre facility in Haryana’s Manesar. He further added that the batteries produced here will be used for “Made in India iPhones”.
Apple plans that once all the companies that I’ve mentioned previously are set up and are functioning in India, TDK will be responsible for making the electric cells, then Desay and Simplo will eventually package them into batteries. Finally, these batteries will be put inside iPhones by assemblers like Foxconn and Tata.

Apple has many reasons to move away from China and focus on India. The first and major one is the cold tech war that’s happening between the US and China. Additionally, the US and China don’t have the best foreign relations either. On top of that, Apple faced production uncertainties and troubles with China during the pandemic. There’s also word about the not-so-good working conditions that the Chinese labour is put through.
