Apple sent out emails to its iPhone users regarding the same at 12.30 AM on April 11. The alert warns users of the potential spyware attacks on their iPhones. These attacks can compromise the security of iPhones. The email, titled ‘ALERT: Apple detected a targeted mercenary spyware attack against your iPhone,’ asks users to beware and take precautionary actions.

These alerts are not new. We had previously also seen Pegasus targeting iPhone users, including some big names in politics. This time again, Apple has asked users to avoid opening links or attachments from unknown sources, which should be a ritual for anyone by now.

Why this is necessary because once the spyware gets access to smartphones through unsafe websites, malicious apps, or compromised files, it can collect sensitive data, including bank details and login passwords. This can then be used by hackers or sold to third parties.

How to keep your iPhone safe with this spyware?

iPhone spyware alert

To deal with the threat, Apple recommends its iPhone users enable its unique “Lockdown Mode”. What does it do? It helps protect iPhones from sophisticated spyware, like Pegasus. It limits certain apps, websites, and features to minimise the risk of attack. Further, Apple has also asked users to keep their software updated and to use strong passwords.

If you’re an iPhone user, be very careful and follow these steps to protect your precious data. Also, did you get a mail like this from Apple?
