Comes just a day after Vodafone U.K. issued an advisory to all iPhone 4S users on its platform to not upgrade to iOS 6.1 because of possible issues with connectivity and service.
Just a day after Vodafone U.K. had issued an advisory to customers to not upgrade their iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1, Apple has issued what is essentially a “bug fix” version to sort out the problems. Apple, on its website, acknowledges that “This update fixes an issue that could impact cellular performance and reliability for iPhone 4S.” However, that is all that Apple has said about this update. This update is only available for the iPhone 4S. It can be downloaded via Apple’s website, sizing up an enormous 968MB. Alternatively, the same can be downloaded directly on the phone via the Over the Air update, and the download size will depend on the previous updates installed.
Are we the only ones to note the image of the iPhone 5 on a page that is essentially talking about bug-fixes for the iPhone 4S?
Vodafone, and from some other mobile service in Europe, had issued notices to users that iOS 6.1 will possibly cause issues with 3G connectivity, sending and receiving texts and even making outgoing calls from the phone. However, it was also specified that the iOS 6.1 issue was limited only to the Apple iPhone 4S. The advisory had stated that while users should not update, if not already done so, the rest will need to hold on till Apple issues a bug fix.
Interestingly, complaints like excessive battery drain on the iPhone 5 and Microsoft Exchange connectivity on certain devices running iOS 6 have not been addressed. We can be hopeful that Apple is working on fixing those, but none of those will be covered within this update.
