Apple and LG have reportedly teamed up for making foldable displays for the upcoming iPhone. According to a report by the Investor, via the Bell, Apple has chosen LG over Samsung as its manufacturer for the upcoming iPhone screens, which may get a foldable display. The Cupertino based company is switching over to LG due to fear of technology leaks.

Samsung is currently supplying edge-to-edge OLED displays for Apple’s latest flagship smartphone, the iPhone X. As per the reports, LG Display has assigned a dedicated team to develop foldable OLED screens for the new Apple iPhones. LG Innotek, the company’s sister firm has also tasked a team for overseeing the production of Rigid Flexible Printed Circuit Boards (RFPCB) for the foldable smartphone. An unnamed source told The Investor that the production of foldable OLED panels could start from 2020.

Samsung has been reportedly working on its own foldable display smartphone for some time as well. The company had recently confirmed that the device will be launched under the Galaxy Note series next year. Samsung’s foldable smartphone is reported to feature an inward-folding display instead of previously anticipated outwards-folding mechanism.

Apple’s current flagship, the iPhone X, is reportedly facing manufacturing issues, which might make its availability limited until 2018. The main reason being the complexity of the phone’s True Depth camera system. The iPhone X is powered by the company’s latest A11 Bionic processor and sports a 5.8-inch OLED edge-to-edge display, which the company calls a Super Retina Display.
