Apple releases fix for iPhones bricked due to Error 53
The company has apologised to its customers and said that the issue was designed to be a factory test
Apple has issued an updated version of iOS 9.2.1 that would restore iPhones disabled or bricked by Error 53. The update is a patched version of iOS and not a brand-new version of the operating system. Error 53 was caused when a device failed a security check when the Touch ID was replaced by an unauthorised third-party. However, this update would not re-enable the Touch ID sensor.Â
In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple said, âWe apologize for any inconvenience, this was designed to be a factory test and was not intended to affect customers. Customers who paid for an out-of-warranty replacement of their device based on this issue should contact AppleCare about a reimbursement.â Apple has also added a new support document on its websites that will let users know about the cause and repair methods for Error 53. Apple had earlier said that the Error 53 issue was intentional and it did so in order to protect the security of their customers. iOS would check if the Touch ID sensor matches the deviceâs other components and if it found a mismatch, it would disable the sensor in order to prevent it from being used.
