Some users have reported a glitch in the new Lightning EarPods in which the multifunction remote didn’t work properly

One of the biggest changes Apple introduced in the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus was the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack. Thankfully, Apple does offer wired Lightning EarPods bundled with each phone. However, some users have started to report a glitch that causes the multifunction remote to not work properly.

According to a report by Business Insider, after the EarPods are connected to the iPhone 7’s Lightning port, the volume controls stop working and users aren’t able to answer calls or activate Siri. However, the audio continues to function. An Apple spokesperson got in touch with Business Insider, and said that the issue will be fixed in a future update. A temporary fix for the problem is to unplug and reconnect the EarPods.

However, early buyers of the iPhone 7 also have the option of using the new, completely wireless AirPods. The new earbuds feature a custom-designed W1 chip, which the company says will help improve connection and offer better sound. The company also claims that the AirPods’ built-in battery is enough for five hours of use on a single charge. The case that the earbuds come in also holds additional charges, and with the case, users can enjoy 24 hours of listening time.
