The video played in Safari causes iOS to overload and eventually freeze to become unusable

Apple's iOS is slowing losing its reputation for being the most stable mobile operating system in the market. Earlier this week, a report suggested that iOS does not work as often as Android and now a new 5-second video questions the efficiency of the software.

The video in question is of just 5-second length and when played, it forces an iPhone to lock up and freeze. The video bug was first discovered by Reddit users and all it takes for an iPhone user is to click an MP4 file and watch it to see the phone lock and freeze. The video posted by EverythingApplePro shows a video played in Safari causes iOS to overload and eventually freeze to become unusable.

The cause for this issue is not clear but the video is probably corrupted. The video tricks any iOS build to freeze and become unusable. According to 9to5Mac, iPhones running iOS 10.2 beta 3 will automatically power off and restart fixing the bug.

The bug affects iPhones only when the video arrives in the form of iMessage and not transferred file. However, the fix for this bug is rather simple. iPhone users can simply hard reboot their device when the big freezes the device. iPhone 7 users can reboot their device by hard pressing the power button and volume down button at the same time while older iPhone users can accomplish the same by pressing power and home button at the same time.

Apple's iOS has become subject of insecurity and unstable builds lately. Even Apple has screwed things for users when new builds ended up cracking the device. Last year, a text string disabled Apple's iMessage app while Safari randomly started crashing on iPhones. Apple has always been proactive with software fixes and we can hope an upcoming software update should fix this too. For now just don't click on MP4 files received from friends in iMessage.
