Apple iPhone 8’s Siri might be enhanced with AI
Reports suggest that Apple might add AI capabilities to its digital assistant
Apple might be planning on making Siri smarter with AI. According to a report by Digitimes, the next generation of iPhone, tipped to be called the iPhone 8, might come with an “enhanced Siri” that will feature AI capabilities. However, Apple may not be the only one to introduce such features as Digitimes also names other manufacturers like Samsung, Huawei, LG and Xiaomi to introduce models featuring AI.
Apple is on an acquisition spree for AI startups and has already acquired Perceptio, Vocal IQ, Tuplejump and Emotient INc. The company also bought Turi a firm that specialises in building AI solutions, for $200 million.
Not to be outdone, Samsung has already said that its upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8 will have its own AI assistant. Reports suggest that the AI assistant will be called Bixby, and will offer visual and text recognition. Besides these two, Nokia is also tipped to introduce its own AI assistant called Viki.
Huawei and HTC have already launched smartphones that feature AI. Huawei’s Honor Magic uses AI to analyse user’s data, which is used to give recommendations. The New HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play also use machine learning to understand user behavior and deliver prioritised notifications.
