Apple iPhone 16 will feature an additional capacitive ‘Capture’ button?
The iPhone 16 series is expected to feature an additional capacitive button called "Capture Button."
This button is expected to be one of the main selling points of the iPhone 16 lineup.
A capacitive Action Button is also anticipated for the iPhone 16 series.
Shortly following the launch of the iPhone 15 series, rumours about the next iPhone 16 smartphone series have already started surfacing online. According to a new report, the iPhone 16 series is expected to feature an additional capacitive button, which is internally known as the “Capture Button.”
According to a report by MacRumors, the tech giant’s next iPhone 16 smartphone lineup will likely gain an additional capacitive button. Codenamed “Project Nova,” the button is expected to be one of the main selling points of the iPhone 16 series, assuming it gets past the initial testing phase.

The Capture Button is expected to be present on the same side as the Power button, only positioned slightly lower, where the mmWave cutout can be found on the latest iPhone models. “The mmWave cutout has been moved to the opposite side, located under the volume buttons,” the report said.

It is still unclear what the new capacitive button will be used for.
Rather than a typical mechanical button, the Capture Button is anticipated to be a capacitive one. Unlike mechanical buttons, capacitive buttons do not move when pressed. Instead, the button uses haptic engines to detect pressure and touch and provide haptic feedback.
The buttons are anticipated to function similarly to the iPhone SE’s Home Button, which simulates pressing a physical button using the device’s integrated Taptic Engine. According to sources, the capacitive buttons will likely have a force sensor. Force sensors detect the force that is being applied, and convert the magnitude of force into electrical signals.
This new Capture Button is expected to make its debut across the entire iPhone 16 series, including the base model iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
A capacitive Action Button is also anticipated for the iPhone 16 series in addition to the new Capture Button. The haptic Action Button, also referred to as “Project Atlas,” might have a design that is similar to the Capture Button and employs strain gauges and a reluctance motor to provide the necessary haptic feedback.
Moreover, the base model iPhone 16 is expected to include a redesigned camera bump with a vertical camera layout similar to the iPhone 12. The screens of the Pro models will likely increase in size as well, from 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch to 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch, respectively.
