Apple could release iOS 16.2 soon: Here’s what we know about the upcoming version of iOS

HIGHLIGHTS

Apple is working on iOS 16.2.

It has already rolled out the developer beta.

Here is when the update can make it to regular users.

Apple recently released iOS 16.1 for all iPhone users and iPadOS 16.1 for iPad users. As users upgrade to the latest publicly available version of iOS, the company is testing iOS 16.2. As per a report by MacRumors, Apple will release an iOS 16.2 release candidate in a few days, followed by the public version next week. However, if the company releases more betas with particular features or bug fixes, the launch could be delayed by a week. Here’s everything we know about the iOS 16.2 release date.

iOS 16.2 is coming soon

As mentioned in the report, beta testers usually receive five or more versions of iOS before a candidate release, “but timelines get crunched during the holiday season.” With iOS 15, Apple released only four betas before the release candidate came out to testers, and the final version was made available to general users. Nevertheless, the publication expects Apple to provide a release candidate for iOS 16.2 on December 6, 2022. If that happens, the final build of iOS 16.2 should be available to users in the week of December 12, 2022.

Nevertheless, it seems likely that Apple will release iOS 16.2 this month because Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also mentioned the same timeline in his report. However, if the company comes up with more beta versions before release, there is a chance that iOS 16.2 won’t come out until the week of December 19, 2022. But why does the release date of iOS 16.2 matter so much? Well, the version will come with several important features, including The Freeform App, Changes to the Lock Screen, and improvements in the Home App. The update is also expected to add specific settings to the iPhone 14 Pro’s always-on display.
