Tata Group might be planning to expand the Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu.
This could be in sync with Apple’s high targets for the Tata Group for manufacturing Apple iPhones in India.
Apple is apparently planning to reduce its production in and dependency on China.
The Tata Group has been in the news for a while now as they were working out a deal with the Wistron group to acquire its iPhone manufacturing unit in India. Now that the acquisition is complete and wrapped up, the Tata Group becomes the first Indian company to manufacture iPhones. Now, that’s done Tata seems to have big plans.
For context, this isn’t Tata’s first association with Apple. Earlier, it made spare parts for Apple, including the casing of iPhones at its Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu. Now, an Economic Times report revealed that the Tata Group might be planning to expand the Hosur facility in Tamil Nadu to eventually double its production capacity.

This could be in sync with Apple’s high targets for the Tata Group for manufacturing Apple iPhones in India, according to several media reports. One should note that the Tata group will not only be produced for the Indian market but for the global one as well.
Apple is apparently planning to reduce its production in and dependency on China. Hence, it is setting higher targets for the Tata Group. For this, the Tatas plan on expanding the Hosur facility over the next year and a half. The expansion will allow the Tata Group to employ over 28,000 people in its facility. Media reports suggest that the company is already looking at nearby areas that it can possibly use for the expansion.

Currently, the Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu does partial assembly of certain parts of the iPhones prior to their packaging into boxes. These assembled parts are then sent to other Foxconn and Wistron facilities where the final touches are added before they are ready to be shipped.
