Appcelerator is a great tool that allows web developers to create native applications for multiple mobile and desktop platforms. Recently they released their latest Mobile SDK, and best of all, they have now released a completely new IDE for creating mobile and desktop applications.
The new IDE is based on Aptana Studio IDE, which itself is based on Eclipse. Earlier this year, Appcelerator acquired Aptana, with the aim to create a version of their IDE suited for use with their SDK. Appcelerator’s Titanium SDK allows developers to code their applications using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and supports the latest web standards. In addition Titanium applications can also include code written in Ruby, Python or PHP even embedded within their HTML files. Since Aptana can work with all of these programming languages, it is good fit as an IDE.
The newly released Titanium Studio adds numerous useful features for Titanium developers. First of all since it is an IDE, features such as project management, syntax highlighting, and many other features available in Eclipse, come by default. What Titanium adds to the mix is code completion support for the Titanium SDK features, testing on device simulators, packaging applications for mobile and desktop, and an auto-updater for the Titanium SDK.
The new features of the Titanium Mobile SDK 1.7 are (as mentioned in the release):
