Andy Rubin, the creator of Google’s Android Operating system, is expected to launch a premium smartphone this year and we may have gotten a glimpse at what the device might offer. The new smartphone is expected to be launched under the Essentials brand and a device codenamed Essential FIH-PM1 has been spotted on GFXBench. As per the listing, the device is powered by a Qualcomm octa-core processor with Adreno 540 GPU hinting that the smartphone will most likely be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 platform. It’s also tipped to come with 4GB of RAM and run Android Nougat. Interestingly, the device is listed as offering 10GB of storage, but this will most likely change with the final consumer-grade version of the device. Other specifications include a 12MP rear and a 7MP front cameras.

The smartphone is also listed as having an odd resolution of 2560 x 1312 pixels. This is most likely due to the device’s bezel-less design. Last month, Rubin tweeted a teaser image for the device, which showed off the smartphone’s design, similar to that of the Xiaomi Mi Mix smartphone. The device is expected to feature a 5.5-inch screen and may come with a pressure sensitive display. Other reports have suggested that the smartphone might offer modular functionality.
