Android Oreo Beta update for Xiaomi Mi A1 adds fast charging and faster app load times
HIGHLIGHTS

Xiaomi has already rolled out the Oreo beta update to select Mi A1 testers. Two of the highlighting features of the update are fast charging and faster app load times

The Android Orio update for the Mi A1 is in Beta and it looks like the update brings with it fast charging. The Mi A1 has the hardware for fast charging but the feature wasn’t available on the smartphone. Telecomtalk got their hands on the Orio build for the Mi A1 and has confirmed that the smartphone can charge from 0% to 100% in 92 minutes. They have said that to achieve this, they did not use the charger that comes with the Mi A1, but the OnePlus 5T’s Dash charger.

Whether fast charging will work with the charger you get in the box is yet to be seen. Before the update, the Mi A1 would take over 2 hours to reach full charge. Another finding was that apps loaded faster on the Mi A1 after the update. Along with the app load times, the app animations have seen improvements as well.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is an Android One smartphone from the house of Xiaomi. The smartphone runs on stock Android, a first for the company. Speaking of the specifications, the smartphone has a 5.5-inch 1080p display. It has a dual 12MP camera setup at the back and a 5MP selfie camera. The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. It has 64GB built-in storage expandable via a microSD card. A 3080mAh battery powers the entire package.

In the Digit Zero1 Awards we crowned the Mi A1 as the best mid ranged smartphone. In our award brief we wrote, “It’s first stock Android smartphone, Xiaomi made a killing with the Mi A1 this year. It’s part of Google’s Android One program and the fastest Android one phone you can find in India today. It has 4 GB of RAM and runs on the fast yet efficient Snapdragon 625 chipset. It was a close one between this and the Moto G5 Plus. The Mi A1 and Moto G5 Plus match in almost everything, including their cameras. So, the Mi A1 takes the award because of its second sensor. The Mi A1’s primary camera gives you pretty much the same performance as the Moto G5 Plus. But it’s telephoto camera allows optical zoom and bokeh photos, neither of which can be done on the Moto G5 Plus. That of course gives the Mi A1 an edge over Motorola’s phone and takes it past the finish line. To sum up, you will get an excellent budget phone in the Xiaomi Mi A1. It’s already received the November security patch from Google, and the company has also promised both Android Oreo and P OS updates for this phone as and when they release.”
