Android One smartphones in India are reportedly receiving over-the-air (OTA) Android Marshmallow v6.0 update. Apparently, Micromax Canvas A1, Karbonn Sparkle V and Spice Dream Uno are the devices that are receiving the update. Google has not made any official announcement regarding the update rollout, but users have posted screenshots of their smartphones on websites like XDA-Developers.
As Google is yet make an official announcement, it is not confirmed whether the screenshots are genuine or not. In the screenshot, you can see that there is a field named "Android security patch level". It is the field which presumably shows the date when the phone received last security update. The feature was reported to be avaialble on newly launched Nexus 5X and 6P and it is not confirmed whether it is a feature of Android Marshmallow. The feature was also not available in the Android M Developer Preivew. It is is not know whether the feature will make its way to other phones or even the older Nexus devices. In case the screenshots are genuine, then you can expect the update to be avaialble for your phone sometime soon. You can also check for update manually by going to Settings>About Phone>System Updates.
All of the above-mentioned devices are first generation Android One smartphones launched last year, and there is no information about the Lava Pixel V1 – the new Android One smartphone launched earlier this year. The smartphone currently runs on Android v5.1.1, and at the time of its launch, Lava had said that the device will receive Android M updates, as and when it would arrive.
Google has already made the Marshmallow update available for Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9, and Nexus Player. If you do not want to wait for the OTA update, you can download the factory image files for the corresponding device, and flash it manually. The update brings various new features to the smartphones, like native fingerprint scanning support, Google Now on Tap, individual app permissions control, Doze mode for improving battery life, etc. Other than Android One devices, HTC and Motorola have also announced their respective list of devices that will get the Marshmallow update. Additionally, LG G4 and G3 are also expected to get the Android M update sometime soon.
