Android Nougat v7.0 starts rolling out to Nexus devices
The update brings multi-window mode, support for Vulkan API, better battery life, new emojis, and more!
Google has announced that it has started rolling out Android Nougat v7.0 to eligible Nexus devices, and the Pixel C tablet. So, anyone using the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 or Nexus 9 should receive the update soon. If you haven't received the update yet, don't worry, as the company has stated in its blog that the update will be rolled out over the course of "several weeks". If any user has enrolled in the Android Beta Program, they too will receive the final version.
As with any major update, users will get to see a number of new features as well as improvements to the old ones. This includes a new multi-window mode that lets users open two apps side-by-side. Further, the update also allows users to directly reply to notifications without the need to open any apps. It also brings support for Vulkan API, and better battery life thanks to improvements to Doze, introduced first in the Android Marshmallow update. Other additions in Android Nougat include new emojis, better Quick Settings, and improvements to security.
Unlike previous launches, Google did not unveil any new Nexus devices. However, previous leaks and rumours may announce new Nexus devices, with HTC manufacturing both of them. The successor to Nexus 5X is reportedly codenamed Sailfish, while the successor to the Nexus 6P is tipped to be codenamed Marlin.
