Nexus users are now receiving a minor update on their smartphones. The Android v6.0.1 update is on its way to Nexus devices. Being a 0.1 update, it doesn’t bring major changes to the OS. What it does bring is support for a lot of new emojis. The official Nexus twitter account tweeted, “We're celebrating new emojis on #Nexus which start rolling out today!”
As of writing this article, our Nexus 6 smartphone hasn’t received the update, but we expect to see it soon. The update enables system-wide support for the new emojis. The Google keyboard app, which is default on Android smartphones, will also be updated to support the emojis.
Another change that the Android 6.0.1 update brings is for tablet users. The home, back and menu button, which previously would rest in the center of the bottom bar, is now changed. The back and home buttons are towards the left and the recent apps button is to the right. This is a welcome change as it will help users who hold the tablet from either side giving access to these buttons easily with the thumb.
The 'Do Not Disturb' mode has seen the return of the “Until next alarm” option with the 6.0.1 update. The feature first appeared in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, but was removed from Marshmallow. It looks like the feature was missed, and is now making a comeback.
The OTA update of Android 6.0.1 should be hitting Nexus devices soon. If you are one that isn’t rocking a Nexus smartphone and is wondering when the Android v6 update will hit your smartphone, our list of Android smartphones getting Marshmallow update may help you get an idea.
