Lenovo has started rolling out an OTA update for the Lenovo A6000 and A6000 Plus smartphones, which came preinstalled with Android KitKat. It finally brings Android v5 (Lollipop) to these phones, along with bug fixes, and performance & stability improvements. The incremental Lollipop upgrade will also bring Material Design to the two phones.
The Lenovo A6000 comes with a 5-inch 720p screen and has 8MP rear and 2MP front camera. The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 410 SoC, and has 1GB of RAM along with 8GB of internal memory. The Lenovo A6000 Plus more or less has the same set of specifications, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory.
The Lenovo A6000 had good performance, decent camera and a solid build. However, the battery life and display could have been better. With the A6000 Plus, the camera and overall performance was impressive, although battery life and display was not on the same note. The Lollipop upgrade brings the new phones into the growing category of smartphones running on Android's latest OS iteration. As of now, Google has approximately 21% of Android devices running on Lollipop, while KitKat and Jellybean still power the largest section of Android smartphones.
Lenovo has released two new smartphones at IFA – the Lenovo Vibe P1 with a huge, 5000mAh battery, and the Lenovo Vibe S1, that has two front-facing cameras. Additionally, Lenovo and Motorola announced a month ago that they were going to manufacture smartphones in India, with Moto E already in production at the time of announcement, and Lenovo's K3 Note in the pipeline. Following that, Motorola Mobility, owned by Lenovo, is now in a process of absorbing its parent brand's mobile division into its own banner, and Lenovo's brand tag will gradually be removed from future devices.
