Android 15 is in the works! Here’s what all it could be about
The Developer Preview is not for common users but an early version to receive feedback from developers.

A day later than expected, Google has finally rolled out its first Developer Preview of Android 15. With this upgrade, Google plans to bring on a load of features which include but are not limited to new media experiences, boosting app performances, and more. Today I am going to take you through the progress that Google has made so far with the Android 15 and what can you expect with it. Let’s get to it.
When will Google drop Android 15?
The Developer Preview is not for common users but an early version to receive feedback from developers on the new features, APIs, and behaviour changes. It is expected that the second Developer Preview will drop in March, which will be followed by Beta 1 and Beta 2 in April and May respectively. Once all this is done, we can expect the Beta 3 and Beta 4 versions between June and August, and post the final testing and approvals Android 15 will be released to AOSP and the ecosystem.
Now, let’s come to what improvements Android 15 will offer.

What improvements will it bring?
Android 15 will focus on both privacy and security measures by introducing some key features. It will feature the latest Privacy Sandbox that will upgrade Android AD Services to extension level 10. This will allow for both- a personalised advertising experience as well as prioritised user privacy.
In addition to this, there’s also going to be a Health Connect feature that will give users a secure space to manage and share all of their health data collected by various apps. Google will also introduce a File Integrity Manager with the new Android upgrade that will take care of unauthorised file modifications or malware attacks. Lastly, it will also allow for partial sharing or recording of specific apps.

Android 15 will also focus on the creators. It has new in-app camera controls that will allow users to have more control over the camera hardware and algorithms, facilitating low-light enhancements and flash adjustments. It will also enable composition apps to control synthesisers effectively by extending support to virtual MIDI apps. virtual MIDI
Furthermore, as expected we get some performance and quality enhancements. Google has expanded the Android Dynamic Performance Framework (ADPF), making it more power efficient and allowing for thermal management capabilities. Lastly, for developers Android 15 will incorporate OpenJDK APIs and quality-of-life improvements, which will allow for compatibility with over a billion devices running Android 12+.
