Amazon has finally launched its Prime subscription service in India. The service will offer free, unlimited one-day and two-day delivery on a number of products sold by the e-commerce site. Further, users will also get a free 60-day trial period, which the company says is double the period usually offered globally. Amazon Prime will be available at an introductory price of Rs. 499 per year, as compared to the list price of Rs. 999, although it is not known how long this discounted price will last.

The benefits of Amazon Prime will be available in 20 cities across India. Besides the above mentioned perks, members will also be able to select same-day, morning, or scheduled delivery at a discounted fee of Rs. 50. For cities not eligible for one-day or two-day delivery, members will receive free delivery with no minimum purchase limit.

Amit Agarwal, Vice-President & Country Head, Amazon India stated, “We are very excited to bring Prime to our customers in India. With Prime, guaranteed one-day delivery becomes an everyday experience instead of an occasional indulgence, and with no minimum purchases, it provides unlimited convenience all year long. For sellers, Fulfillment by Amazon is now an even more powerful opportunity to rapidly grow their business and at the same time, provide customers across India with vast selection and unlimited fast free Prime delivery.”

Amazon has noted that non-members will continue to have the option of speeding up their deliveries, but will have to pay the usual delivery charges. Further, Prime members in India will not get access to Prime Video just yet, which comprises movies and TV shows including Amazon Originals. However, the company has said that the service will be available in the country soon.
