HIGHLIGHTS

The company has updated its return policy and stated that all phones purchased on or after February 7 will have a replacement only policy

Amazon India has stated that mobile phones purchased from the website are no longer eligible for refunds. As per its updated policy, buyers will not be able to return phones they purchased on Amazon, but they can get a replacement if the device is damaged or defective. The buyers have a 10-day time frame, during which they can apply for a replacement. This policy is only applicable to mobile phones, while other electronics devices like toys, software, and video games can still be returned as long as they are not labeled as ‘non-replaceable’.

The company has stated, “All Mobile phones that are fulfilled by Amazon, purchased on or after 7th February 2016, will have a replacement only policy. Mobile phone items that are fulfilled by Amazon will no longer be eligible for refunds. In case you have received a defective or a damaged mobile phone, you will be eligible for a free replacement.”

Back in August last year, Flipkart announced a 24-hour refund policy for products purchased via Cash on Delivery (CoD). The company said that the refunds would be made via Immediate Payment System (IMPS) transfers. It claimed to be the first to have such an initiative, wherein customers get a refund within 24 hours of returning a product. The company said that it wants to provide refunds as soon as the product reaches its hub. Flipkart also stated that the facility would only be available with banks that support IMPS transactions. In addition, users would receive timely updates on SMS and email to let them know the status of their refund.

Last year, Amazon had announced that it was suing more than 1,000 fraudulent reviewers after the company found various misleading and fake product reviews on its website. The lawsuit was filed against account holders from Fiverr.com, a marketplace for people looking to offer services such as product reviews. We have reached out to Amazon for a comment on their no refunds policy. Keep watching this space for updates.
