Reports in DigiTimes claim Amazon working on its smartphone with Foxconn

Last year we had heard rumours of an Amazon-made smartphone to be launched this year. This time again, according to a report by DigiTimes. Amazon is working on a smartphone which will sport a 4.7-inch screen. This alleged smartphone is expected to come out in the second quarter of 2013, but that date is subject to change.

According to the report, Amazon was initially considering a 4.3-inch screen but later decided to go for a larger screen size after seeing an increase in demand for larger screen smartphones. The phones will be manufactured by Foxconn and if things go according to plan, we will see a phone release in the second quarter this year.

The pricing of the alleged Amazon smartphone is pegged between USD 100 and USD 200. Looking at this pricing, Amazon clearly is looking to target budget buyers as it did when it launched the Kindle Fire tablet. It will be interesting to see what specifications Amazon is willing to offer at that low a price point.
