HIGHLIGHTS

A mysterious Xiaomi smartphone with model number M1808D2TE was previously spotted on Weibo. The 3C listing shows two other variants bearing model numbers M1808D2TT and M1808D2TC.

It seems that Xiaomi is definitely working on a new smartphone, allegedly the Mi 8X. Earlier the phone was spotted on Chinese social media website Weibo. Now the same smartphone has been found listed on 3C website along with two other variants. If Xiaomi names this Mi 8X, it will be the fourth phone in the series, with Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Mi 8 SE smartphones.

During the period before the launch, XDA Developers had claimed that two Xiaomi smartphones that codenamed as ‘Sirius’ and ‘Comet’ would be powered by the 710 SoC. The ‘Sirius’ smartphone was made official as the Mi 8 SE but there was no official word on the ‘Comet’ smartphone. The Mi 8X could be the rumored ‘Comet’ smartphone. Previously, the smartphone that was found on Weibo had a model number M1808D2TE. The other two devices that have been spotted on 3C listing bear model numbers M1808D2TT and M1808D2TC. Unfortunately, no further information is provided in the listing.

Xiaomi had launched Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Mi 8 SE smartphones earlier this year. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition has an in-display fingerprint sensor and the Mi 8 SE is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 710. The Xiaomi Mi 8X could come with an in-display fingerprint sensor and Snapdragon 710. In the leaked images, there is no conventional fingerprint scanner on the back panel but a dual-camera setup. A report claims that this particular smartphone could launch with an OLED display and without a notch. It will run on Android 8.1 Oreo and house a 3,100mAh battery.
