Airtel has said that its voice and SMS services have resumed in western region after a partial network outage caused by fire at one of its data centres. The telecom operator has assured users that its 2G and 3G services will be restored by today. Airtel has also added that is working to fix the outage as soon as possible.
Airtel updates its users on Twitter
On Tuesday, a network outage hit the Airtel customers in western region. The service outage was reportedly caused by a fire at its data centre in Malad in suburban Mumbai. Airtel users in Mumbai and several parts of Maharashtra were unable to make voice calls or send SMSes. According to reports, as many as 36 lakh users were hit by the outage. Moreover, Airtel’s 2G and 3G services were also hit. Airtel users in adjoining areas including Pune also experienced the outage.
Irked by the unprecedented network outage, Airtel customers took to the social networking site Twitter to express their anger. Meanwhile, Airtel has not yet provided any time frame to fix the outage, but it has continued to update its users about the issue. You can follow Airtel’s updates on network outage here.
