Last month, Huawei launched the world’s first triple-foldable smartphone in China. As fascinating as it looks, the Huawei Mate XT shocked everyone with its pricing. It was launched in China for CNY 19,999, which is approximately Rs 2,37,000. Despite being so expensive, the triple foldable smartphone received over 3 million pre-orders. And now, after Huawei has shown the world the tri-foldable technology, Samsung is said to be working on one of its own.
According to a report by ZDNet Korea, Samsung Electronics is developing a “tri-fold model that can fold the screen twice.” Along with this, the report also states that this new smartphone can launch in 2025. Further, Samsung is also said to be working on an entry-level clamshell foldable smartphone that could launch next year along with this triple-foldable smartphone.
However, Samsung has also been previously rumoured to be working on a tri-fold smartphone. Back in March 2023, a tipster suggested that instead of launching the Galaxy S23 FE at that time, Samsung would introduce a phone with a triple-folding display. Apart from this, Samsung has already shown two prototype phones, called Flex G and Flex S, with different foldable designs. These haven’t reached the market yet but are similar to Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate and Tecno’s Phantom Ultimate 2, a tri-fold concept revealed in August.
Now, speaking of the Huawei Mate XT, let me tell you more about its triple-folding technology. It uses two hinges to create a Z-shape, which results in three distinct screens. When folded, the outer screen works as a compact display, but the device can fully unfold into a large tablet-like screen. This design is great for watching content, multitasking, and even gaming. One screen can also be used as a keyboard. The tri-fold setup offers flexibility, allowing users to adjust the display size for different tasks, making it ideal for video calls, work, or simply enjoying a bigger screen on the go.
