Adcom’s Founder and Chairman, Sanjeev Bhatia has stated that the company did sell its phones to Ringing Bells, but was unaware of its reselling plans
Adcom has announced that the company had sold its devices to Ringing Bells for Rs. 3,600 a unit, but was unaware of the latter's plan to resell them. Adcom also warned Ringing Bells of legal action if its activities adversely impacted Adcom’s brand name or brought about any other losses. The Founder and Chairman, Sanjeev Bhatia stated, “Yes, it is true that although we sold the handsets to Ringing Bells earlier, like we sell Adcom mobiles to lakhs of users, we were absolutely unaware of the reselling plans of the company in question. Furthermore, we still haven't been able to evaluate their pricing policy, as we sold the handsets at Rs 3,600 per unit.” He added, “We are deeply grieved by this incident where our mobile phone has been presented to masses for Rs 251, and therefore, would not hesitate from taking any legal actions against the company, in case the entire fiasco impacts Adcom's brand name or subsequently we face any other kind of losses”
Ringing Bells launched the Freedom 251 smartphone last month at an incredible price of just Rs. 251. Since its launch, the company has been under intense scrutiny. PayU Biz, the company that provides the gateway for payments made to Ringing Bells has said that it is holding the money received from consumers till deliveries are complete. In addition, the Enforcement Directorate has reportedly said that the Freedom 251 smartphone could have been a Ponzi scam.
