Reliance Jio has started shipping JioPhones on Sunday and according to a report by PTI, the company is said to deliver about 6 million phones in a span of 15 days. The report further claims that the company will first start shipping the JioPhone to rural and small town areas.
A channel partner of Reliance Jio told PTI, “The Chairman (Mukesh Ambani) had said that the JioPhone will bridge digital divide between rural and urban India. Therefore, delivery of JioPhone will start this Sunday in rural areas and small towns,” However, he did not know when the next round of bookings for JioPhone will commence.
Consumers who have booked the JioPhone can track their orders using Jio’s official website, MyJio app or by calling a toll-free number. In order to track the device using Jio’s website, users need to click on the track order tab on the Jio website and enter their order id. Logging into the MyJio app, users will see a track order banner through which they can track the status of their JioPhone. Buyers can also call on the toll-free number 18008908900 to track the status of their JioPhone orders.
The JioPhone was announced by Mukesh Ambani at Reliance Industries' AGM on July 21. Pre-bookings for the low-cost 4G device commenced on August 24 and the company claims to have received nearly 6 million pre-orders for the phone. Consumers need to pay a sum of Rs 500 while pre-ordering the device and the remaining Rs 1000, when they receive the phone. After three years, users will be refunded the entire amount if they submit their JioPhone back to the company, thus making the device effectively free for consumers.
