Transcend has launched new solid state drives that will make owners of compatible laptops and netbooks very happy, as well as some OEMs. Meant for devices with a small form factor, Transcend’s new mSATA and half-slim SSDs feature a high-bandwidth standard SATA 3GB/s interface, making them ideal for tablets, mobile internet devices, and embedded storage applications as well.
[RELATED_ARTICLE]Transcend’s mSATA SSDs offer a smaller form factor than 2.5-inch SSDs, and are apparently 1/12th the volume and 1/7th the weight – measuring 29.85 mm x 50.8 mm x 3.5 mm, and adhering to the MO-300A JEDEC standard for small form-factor SSDs.
Transcend’s half-slim SSD modules are a slightly larger than the mSATA SSDs, but are still much smaller than the regular 2.5-inch SSDs, with dimensions of 54 mm x 39 mm x 4 mm – making them compliant with the MO-297 JEDEC standard.
