Our Digit Zero1 Award winner this year is starting a streak of sorts, since its previous iteration won the Digit Zero1 Award last year! Once again, it managed to outperform its competition in every single gaming benchmark, be it synthetic or real-world gaming. Of course, the competition wasn’t too far behind and are certainly gaming beasts in their own right. That said, our undisputed best performing gaming laptop of the year is the…

Digit Zero1 Award Winner: MSI Raider GE78HX 13VI (Buy now)

Price:559,990

The MSI Raider GE78HX turns everything up to 11, managing to outperform even the MSI Titan GT77 (or atleast a variant of it). This laptop is finetuned for gaming, and managed to pull numbers we’ve never seen before, cementing its place as not only our Digit Zero1 2023 Award winner for best performing laptop, but the best gaming laptop we’ve tested so far, period. The combination of the 13th gen Intel Core i9-13980HX and the NVIDIA RTX 4090 will blaze through any game you throw at it, and if that wasn’t all, you get a mammoth 64GB of DDR5-5600 RAM to handle any and all of your intensive multi-tasking needs.

To give you an idea of just how well this laptop performs, we averaged well over 200 FPS at high settings for games like Metro Exodus, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Dirt 5, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Gears 5. That’s almost double the frames we got from last year’s winner in the segment! Rest assured, any AAA game we threw at this thing ran buttery smooth, including the recent Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Baldur’s Gate 3, Lies of P, and Cyberpunk 2077 – Phantom Liberty. We’ve raved enough, the MSI Raider GE78HX is our undisputed Digit Zero1 Award winner for the best performing gaming laptop.

Runner-up: ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 G834JY (Buy now)

Price: ₹359,990

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the only other nominated gaming laptop with an RTX 4090 in it is taking the runner up position. As far as specs are concerned, on paper, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 has the same specs as the MSI Raider GE78HX. The same processor in the 13th gen Intel Core i9-13980HX and the same GPU in the NVIDIA RTX 4090. The only major difference is the RAM, the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 comes with 32 GB of DDR5-4800 RAM, which is both less than and slightly slower than the RAM on the Raider.

While it may not have managed to best the Raider, the Scar 18 is still a beast of a laptop and was on average only 10-20 FPS behind the MSI Raider in real-world gaming benchmarks. While 10-20 FPS might seem like a lot, we need to remember that these laptops easily hit well over 150-200 FPS on average in most popular titles. You’re still getting fantastic numbers in general, and this laptop will also absolutely crush any modern AAA game you throw at it. The Scar 18 is by no means a slouch and deserves its spot as our Runner-Up in the Best Performing Gaming Laptop category.

Digit Best Buy Award Winner: Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H (Buy now)

Price: ₹300,430

The Digit Best Buy Award Winner is a product that offers the best value-for-money. The Lenovo Legion Pro 7 does exactly that, offering phenomenal performance at nearly half the price of our Zero1 Award Winner. Featuring and Intel Core i9-13980HX and an NVIDIA RTX 4080, it didn’t give us the same numbers as the MSI Raider, however, it came very close to the ROG Scar 18 on several occasions.

The 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM on the Legion 7 Pro tied with and even surpassed the the Raider in some benchmarks and it also scored among the highest in general productivity and processor benchmarks. The overall package is fantastic, offering a great display, several I/O port options, and great overall build quality and thermal management. An easy recommendation for the Digit Best Buy Award Winner 2023 in the best performing gaming laptop category.
