Dell has launched its new XPS 13 and XPS 15 laptops in India. The latest iteration of Dell’s XPS series of laptops are said to have been redesigned to offer a “superior” computing experience with premium materials, a smaller and thinner profile as well as larger display. They also feature the latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors and compact formfactors,

Dell XPS 13 (9300)

The Dell XPS 13 packs a four-sided InfinityEdge display that allows the company to fit a 13.4-inch display inside a traditional 11-inch form-factor. Dell notes that this allows for a 2% smaller form factor as compared to the previous generation device with a 6.8% larger display with a 16:10 aspect ratio. The smaller bezels are also said to offer a 91.5% screen-to-body ratio, which should allow for a more immersive viewing experience. Speaking of the display, the device comes with a 4K UHD+ VESA certified DisplayHDR panel with 500nits of brightness and a 100% sRGB colour gamut.

In terms of battery life, the Dell XPS 13 is said to offer up to 18 hours 49 minutes of use with the FHD+ configuration and when using productivity applications like Word or Excel. The device also features the use of premium materials like machines aluminium, carbon fibre, woven glass fibre and Corning Gorilla Glass.

All this, combined with the compact form factor ensures that the XPS 13 series continues to be a good option for those looking for a premium laptop that can be carried around for work.

The XPS 13 comes in two colour variants, namely Platinum Silver with Black Carbon Fiber palm rest and Frost with arctic white woven glass fibre palm rest.

When asked what could be next in terms of innovation for the XPS line, Anand Subramanya, Director, Product Marketing, Consumer and Small Business, Dell Technologies, India said that "XPS has always been about extreme performance and when we look at designing these products, we are always designing it for future-readiness. When we launched the XPS 13 in 2014, those were the first products with 3 sided narrow bezels. it has taken almost 5 years of hard work and engineering to now have a four-sided infinity display." He further added, on a lighter note, how the XPS 13 had its webcam at the bottom for a few iterations, till Dell could innovate on packing a camera into the top, narrow bezel." When we got our hands on the Dell XPS 13 9300 at CES earlier this year, Ed Boyd, Senior Vice President, Experience Design shared with us that Dell managed to achieve the four-sided narrow bezels by shrinking the timing controller, a feat that took Dell two years to achieve.

Dell XPS 15 (9500)

Like the Dell XPS 13, the XPS 15 also comes with a four-sided InfinityEdge display to offer a 15.6-inch display with a 92.9% screen-to-body ratio. Other features include a 4K UHD+ resolution with 100% Adobe RGB and 94% DCIP 3 colour gamut with 500nits of brightness. It also features Dolby Vision certification. Subramanya, in our interview, said that the new XPS 15 has been designed keeping creators in mind. This is why there is a Creator's Edition of the XPS 15 which packs not only great hardware in the form of Intel's 10th generation processors, but also a colour-accurate 4K display. When asked if the XPS 15 comes only with OLED display option, Subramanya clarified it by saying that there are both IPS LCD and OLED options available, all of which are Dolby Vision certified.

In terms of sound, the XPS 15 packs an up-firing quad-speaker design with built-in Waves Nx 3D audio, which aims to offer users an immersive 3D sound experience. It also sports top-mounted mics for better voice clarity uring video conferencing

In terms of performance, the device is powered by Intel’s latest 10th Gen Intel Core processors and is available with up to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti for graphics. This makes the Dell XPS 15 a device that’s aimed at creators looking for a premium laptop. Just like the XPS 13, the Dell XPS 15 also uses premium materials for its construction like CNC machined aluminium and aerospace-grade carbon fibre. The XPS 15 is available in Platinum Silver with Black Carbon Fiber palm rest.
