Acer unveiled the Triton 900 and the Triton 500 gaming laptops under its Predator sub-brand at CES 2019 earlier today. Both models are powered by Intel’s 8th-gen Core H-series processors. Both come with NVIDIA’s latest generation of graphics cards that support ray tracing. While the Triton 500 is a mainstream gaming laptop, the Triton 900 is unlike anything we’ve before. It’s actually a convertible laptop.
Meet the Acer Predator Triton 900, the lovechild of a large mainstream gaming laptop and a thin and light convertible laptop. According to Acer, it sports an Ezel Aero hinge that allows the large 17-inch 4K display to flip, extend, or recline into modes like notebook mode, touchscreen mode, gaming mode, and stand mode. The Triton 900 can effectively be used as a gaming machine or a creator’s handheld.
“The Predator Triton 900’s one-of-a-kind flipping screen allows for multiple gaming scenarios and better ergonomics, while the Triton 500 offers superb gaming performance in a slimmer, all-metal body for gamers on the go,” commented Jerry Hou, General Manager of Consumer Notebooks, IT Products Business at Acer. The Triton 900 features an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 GPU and a 4K IPS touchscreen display with support for NVIDIA G-SYNC. It also features a six-core 8th-gen Intel Core CPU, a PCIe RAID 0 solid-state drive, and up to 32GB of RAM. To keep itself cool, the Triton 900 uses Acer’s Coolboost technology.
While the Triton 900 screams ‘look at me’, the Triton 500 is a mainstream gaming laptop. According to Acer, its thickness is 17.9 millimetres and its weight, 2.1 kilogrammes. Inside it, there’s an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 with Max-Q Design. Like the Triton 900, storage comes courtesy of a PCIe-based RAID 0 solid-state drive. Its 15.6-inch IPS display has a refresh rate of 144Hz and a response time of 3ms. The Triton 500 too supports NVIDIA G-SYNC.
The Acer Predator Triton 900 will be available in North America, EMEA, and China from March for a starting price of $3,999, €4,199, and ¥39,999 respectively (Rs 2,79,430 approx). The Acer Predator 500 will be available in North America and EMEA from February for a starting price of US$1,799 and €1,999 respectively (Rs 1,18,855 approx). It will be available in China starting this month for a starting price of ¥16,999. We have no idea yet as to when these models will come to India.
