According to CMR’s India Data Cards Market Review, AMJ 2013, 1.83 million data cards were shipped in India for Q2 (April-June) 2013. The report stated that ZTE leads the Indian data card market ahead of Huawei and Micromax.
The CMR report stated that Huawei, Micromax and ZTE shipped 65% of shipments in Q2 2013 for GSM and for CDMA, ZTE and Huawei together had 95% of the total shipments. The report added that ZTE had 30.2 percent of the market share, with Huawei in second position with 29.9 percent and Micromax following with 14.2 percent.
CMR stated that Data Card players have begun bundling deals with mobile telephony service providers, laptop PC OEMs and tablet vendors to increase device sales. The report added that Alcatel, iBall and Lava have also witnessed an upward trend in their data card shipment numbers during Q2 2013.
Commenting on the results, Faisal Kawoosa, Lead Analyst, CMR Telecoms Practice said, “There has been a significant decline in overall data card shipments on a yearly basis, mainly because of declining shipments of CDMA data cards. On the other hand, the high growth rate of GSM data cards is on account of fast increasing shipments of HSDPA 14.4, HSDPA 21.6 and LTE 100 data cards. ”
ZTE has launched four 3G data cards in India under the Swift Brand including Swift (7.2Mbps with Voice Call) priced at Rs 1,799, Swift Plus (14.4Mbps) priced at Rs 1,999, Swift WPlus (14.4Mbps with Wi-Fi) priced at Rs 2,250 and Swift Speed (21.6Mbps with Voice Call) priced at Rs 2,499.
