Yahoo has revamped its e-mail service across all platforms with a new design and slew of new features such as themes, collapsible toolbar and improved management of threaded conversations. Yahoo has boosted the storage space on the service to 1TB for all users.
Inspired by Flickr and Tumblr, Yahoo’s redesigned mail service offers a number of theme options as well as image-free colour themes. Users can sync a theme across all platforms they access the mail service with.
Users now have the option to collapse the sidebar and shortcuts to star or send messages to trash. There’s also an option to view the threaded conversations with “quick view”. This feature is pretty similar to Gmail’s threaded conversation. Users can access the ‘quick actions’ when they hover or select a message.
Taking a cue from the Yahoo Weather app, the mail service allows users to add a photo backdrop by visiting the ‘View’ menu or by hitting ‘Esc’ to view the photos full screen.
Moreover, Mail Plus features are now available to all Yahoo Mail users. Users can now create a disposable email address if they don’t want to give out their primary address.
To sort incoming messages, Yahoo offers up to 200 filters, which is double than the number of filters available currently.
Users can forward their mails to another e-mail account as well as another Yahoo Mail address. Users can also download your Yahoo Mail messages using a desktop email application, such as Outlook, and then access them offline.
The redesigned Yahoo Mail service is available in English in the U.S., Canada, UK, Philippines, Malaysia, India, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa with more countries and languages coming soon.
“Today, we rolled out a new look for Yahoo Mail. Our hope is that the new look makes your daily communication habits a little more inspiring and that it will be easier than ever to manage your email,” say Dave McDowell, Senior Director, Yahoo Mail and Lee Parry, Senior Director, Yahoo Mail, Mobile in a post.
