Yahoo! Mail gets updated, features support for 8 Indian languages

Updated on 08-Dec-2011

Yahoo! Mail has announced it will be rolling out its latest version in 27 new markets, 22 new languages, and 16 new countries. This brings the total up to 46 languages, in 70 markets worldwide. Relevantly, support for new languages includes 8 new Indian languages.

The new languages are: Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil. The support for new languages was announced via press release, which goes on to further describe the latest version of Yahoo! Mail:

“Yahoo! Mail delivers a much faster, safer and easier online communications experience. Addition of new regional languages makes it even more convenient for users from across India to access and use Yahoo! Mail.”

The new Yahoo! Mail has improved performance, supposedly twice as fast as previous versions. New features of Yahoo! Mail include such features as Advanced SpamGuard technology, a new anti-phishing service, the All My Purchases app (for tracking your online orders), the Unsubscriber app (to help unsubscribe yourself from newsletters), as well as YouSendIt-powered attachments, for large files.

Built-in chat will support Facebook contacts as well. Users of the new Yahoo! Mail will have the ability to view images and videos from Flickr, Picasa and Youtube within their email. Yahoo! Mail will also allow users to view and respond to Facebook and Twitter messages, as well as update their status, via the new Updates tab, which also keeps track of Zynga apps.

In terms of interface changes, users have over 50 themes to choose from. Frequent contacts will also get prioritized when composing a mail, and a version of the Priority Inbox has also made its way here.
